JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE BEEF… THE LAND
Stewardship
The way we interact with the plants, soil, water, and livestock is all the same. We let Mother Nature take the lead and we assist her efforts. We don’t pillage and overmanage these natural resources to force constant productivity, we steward what is already happening organically and help that happen easier as they heal from overuse and exploitation.
It is our absolute core value that to best care for our cows, we have to know our cows. This means spending time with them in the field every day. From the time that they’re born to the time that they are processed, we are with them. We interact with them multiple times a day, bringing them ground-fed water and food planted, grown, and cut where they live. We regularly move them from field to field, gently and humanely, so they are used to movement and don’t have cortisol spikes when they’re transported for processing.
We don’t brand them or vaccinate them, we just let them live. Sustainable farming means that we don’t interfere with nature unless absolutely necessary for the health of the animal. And on the rare occasion they get sick, we can tell just by listening to how they breathe. We believe it is our responsibility and privilege to give them the best life and the longest life. We regard them as our partners in our agricultural endeavors as they help us regenerate the soil they live on.
You are what you eat… eats
The polycultures we plant on the land are what the cows eat, providing them with a diverse and consistent diet. Polycultures don’t just refer to the plants we grow, it refers to the cattle we raise. We are consistently producing hybrid cows that are healthy, strong, and free. This results in beautifully marbled beef.
We limit their exposure to stream water, meaning they are regularly drinking fresh, potable, ground water that meets their mineral needs. We don’t vaccinate our calves as a preventative measure. We act as doctors and the only time a cow gets a shot is if they get sick. Even then, they only receive an antibiotic shot and are marked as such for beef sales.
Happy Cows
Our cattle receive constant care that isn’t overbearing or stressful. We are always watching them, prepared to give them whatever they need. Whether it’s bringing them more food in the field or checking in on someone with a cough, we are there for them. All of their needs are met and they’re free to live their lives and be cows. When you come see our cows, you’ll see happy cows who have all of their needs met. People have even remarked how incredible it is that our cows are never crying out in the field; they are frolicking, cleaning, grazing, and playing. Happy cows help maintain a cohesive ecosystem.
